Monday

Brrr this morning with temps down near the freezing mark but at times the sun appeared which seemed to warm things up. The little gas wall heater did the job and kept the cabin warm; however it took it awhile as the wood inside was cold to the touch. I slept in until 7:30 mainly because the roosters were waking up the neighbors in Seminole and I had little or no sleep the night before and the bed was piled high with quilts. Its was still dark as the cabin is surrounded with tall trees and doesn't let the bright sunlight in until later in the morning so all of those factors allowed me to be a sleepy head; usually I'm on the pickle ball court by 7:30.

After a late wake up and a spot of HOT green tea I did my quiet time then ate the usual bowl of oatmeal with fruit I headed out to work in the gardens and yard. Brrr is was rather chilly but felt great compared to the stifling oppressive heat we just left in Florida. I understand they have a little fall weather in the area. Nancy had been on the phone with her mom and her dad has a few new problems so we are doing as much as we can to get the cabin ready in case we have to leave at a moments notice.

I pulled up all the bean poles dug my few hills of potato's and got about 10 pounds worth. (I think next year I will plant sweet potato's instead) I got the rotor tiller out and worked up both lower and upper gardens and boy does that thing kick your butt. Nancy was out clipping and thinning the dead stuff out of her flower beds. We both were amazed how beautiful the Fall daisies are and the Zinnias are just gorgeous. They have to be our favorite flowers and the hard freeze here didn't seem to bother them as they are in still full bloom. We ate a bite of lunch then headed up the back trail to the top. Talk about kicking tail well we must have stopped 4-5 times going through the woods as compared to the last time were I didn't stop at all. Its amazing how fast you lose your stamina hiking hills when you have been used to walking flat land. We saw neighbor Joe and Jetta and they are still on top and have taken their cabin off the market, they had no one interested or any inquiries. The cold clear air made the view on top spectacular as we could see the tall building in downtown Winston-Salem. After leaving them we headed back down and I must admit it was much easier going on the down side than the up side, wow am I getting soft!

We decided to take the golf cart out to check on the mail as we have had it on hold for 7 weeks, wow what a stack. We ran into Ray Todd and visited with him and had just returned from getting a shot for pain because of 5 ruptured or bulging discs in his back. We then saw Shirley and Grant and they were having leftovers from their yearly weenie roast again for supper and invited us down. Nancy had made a huge pot of pasta fasoule so we brought that down and wow was that ever good as we sat around the fire eating soup and roasting dogs on a stick. There were about a dozen folks and we sat around the fire eating telling stories, laughing and having a good time. The wood smoke smelled so good and of course the temperature was dropping so about dark we hopped on the golf cart and headed home. The cabin was warm and toasty and of course we smelled like smoke so it was time for a hot shower.

The Rays lost a close one to the Rangers but the Bucs won in their Monday Night Football game even though I turned in around 10:30. Well we have much to do and Nancy's mom said her dad seemed in better spirits today so lets hope and pray he continues regain some strength and improves. We are day to day with our plans, LATER. Here are a couple pics from GG's 83 birthday on Saturday.
