Thursday

Well the morning started out around 7AM with the temps in the middle 60's. There was another heavy dew dripping from the tin roof breaking the silence in the cabin. There was such stillness outside as the dawn broke over the tree tops. After our quiet times I joined Nancy with a bowl of boring oatmeal with a fresh peach and a little cinnamon for breakfast.Afterwards I headed outside to check on the new seedlings as well as the gardens for deer damage. Nancy got ready and then around 10:30 we headed out on our hike to the top of the mountain.

We stopped and visited with Norm on top and then I walked down to check the corn patch which is located down behind his place. Well did I ever receive a surprise as several corn stalks were smashed down and then I noticed all the damage. Raccoons had somehow slipped through the makeshift gate and destroyed 18 ears of corn plus the stalks. We headed on up to let Joe know of the damage and we decided after lunch to head down and try to repair the gate before the 'coons destroyed all the corn.

I loaded up some chicken wire and cutters then headed by to pick up Joe and we headed to the corn patch. We rebuilt the gate and moved some large poles in hopes that will deter the coons from getting in through the fence. Wow was it ever hot and humid. I did manage to pull 10 ears of corn that looked like we might get some eatin' from them. At least we could get something before the coons come back tonight and try the gate and fence. We were certainly disappointed to see such damage by those critters. I may have to get a trap if they continue to get in the corn patch.

After the fence fixing I head home after loading up the golf cart with a load of rocks to fill in a couple areas in the lower yard. I cleaned up then sat in the cool basement as it was that hot outside. After cooling off I sat and read for an hour before we got ready to head out to Sparta. We made a stop at the library before heading on up to the tennis courts where we watched and cheered for our sweet friend Kallie. She lost her singles match but did recover and won her doubles match with another girl, Lydia. After the match it was going on 7PM so we headed to a local pizza place and had a mushroom pizza, Yumm very good.

We made a Food Lion stop before heading back to the cabin. Evening darkness was fast approaching and a beautiful full moon was rising just over the mountain top, yikes was it ever clear, LATER
