Another Superb Morning,Trip to Galax and Vacation Bible School

WOW !!! For all of you who have never experienced a N.C.morning like the one this AM you are truly missing an unforgettable moment in time. At 7 AM the dew is dripping from the tin roof, the morning birds are making such a melodious sound and the sun's heat where it strikes a rotten log is causing steam to rise in the cool damp air. Almost indescribable as all of one's senses are aware and in play and vying to be the more dominant. When you close your eyes this morning atmosphere is surreal. Its difficult to put into words the feeling one gets while being surrounded by everything GOD made.
After checking for deer damage(none was found) we did our quiet time....

Nancy and I left for Galax mid-morning. First we had to stop off at Cumberland Knob on the Parkway and disposed of trash that was non -burnable in their large dumpsters. Everything you bring in either has to be burned or carried out as there is no garbage pickup. We saw several deer and wild turkeys on the way into Galax. The temp was in the 60's as we made our way into town. I dropped Nancy off at Wal-Mart and I headed to Lowe's for lime and potting soil. On the way out of town we stopped at Subway for a quick, healthy and reasonable lunch. After lunch we gassed up $3.93 a gallon. That stop was nearly a 100 bucks. I remember pumping regular gas in 1964 for .19 cents a gallon......

We stopped off at Helen's and brought her some fresh picked zucchini and yellow crooked neck squash(from my garden). She gave us in return some cuke's and bell peppers(we just paid 93 cents for a single pepper at Wal-Mart). After visiting(sitting and rocking on the back porch)for a while we headed for home.

The day was still young so we took the time to take a hike to the top of the mountain. The air was cool in the shade as we hiked through the woods and once on top the sun felt warm while the soft breeze made the hike pleasant. We saw Norm the W.W.II retiree and chatted with him for a few minutes and learned that Betty, his wife isn't healthy. We continued on across the top, saying Hi to Fred. Fred and Brenda have relocated permanently here from Oklahoma and are in the process of building a large home with a magnificent view. The hike was just wonderful but after an hour plus it was time to get ready for an early dinner as we had to be at Cornerstone by 6 PM for VBS........
Nancy made a tasty taco salad and we sat out on the front porch as we ate. After cleaning up we headed for VBS. There were several fields that were being mowed for their hay and the smell was overwhelming as you traveled on these country roads. There were several fields with deer standing out in the open as we drove past........
We had a couple of extra kids tonight and the program was a success as we were late getting out due to the enthusiasm of the kids. On the way home once again several deer crossed the road in front of us. Well the moon is nearly full so we will be lucky if the deer don't eat our plants and veggies tonight. Well better go as tomorrow is mowing and weed eating day. Missing our families and especially Ava and Annsley.
