Lexington BBQ,Richard Childress Winery and Bob Timberlake

Hey to all. We(Nancy,Helen and Joe) took a trip south this morning to the beautiful city of Lexington,N.C. We left the cool mountain air with a trace of fog about 9AM. We manage to take the long way there as the road dept had our exit blocked(construction) that went to Winston-Salem. We finally made it in about 2 hours where it should have about 1 1/2hours. We arrived at the Richard Childress Winery around 11AM. What a place he has and its surrounded by acres of grape vines. Just as you enter the vineyard estates there is a new Holiday Inn Express being built of stacked stone along with a strip store are also of stacked stones. They also match the exterior of the winery. We tasted a few wines; a white that was sweet muscadine/scuppernog and a mild dry red blended wine. Nancy likes the muscadine sweet white and they had it on sale for 5 bucks a bottle. Nice price so we bought 2(1 for us and 1 for our good friend Carol). After browsing through the gift store and sampling some apple salsa. and bbq peanuts we headed back north to Speedy's bbq house. Well Speedy's has been there for years as both Helen and Joe reflected on the numerous times they had eaten there with their spouses and friends. The name reflected the service but not the quality of the food. I should have know the full parking lot is an indication of the quality and quantity. We were not let down althought tables and booths were probably at least the ones both Helen and Joe sat at over 50 years ago. The chopped meat, redslaw, hush puppies and fries were tasteful and so much I couldn't clean my plate. Now we should make note of that as I'm always waiting for someone to get full.(I even skipped dinner tonight). We left there with a tummy so full that it was all we could do to stay awake. We headed to Bob Timberlake's gallery in the south part of town and tried out those big comfortable couches and chairs(Joe and I). Nancy and Helen did the shopping but at $47,500 for a picture painting of an old farm house we felt it was time to head back to Wal-Mart or at least Target. By now the temp was at a warm 95 degrees so maybe we should be heading back to the cool mountains. But there was 1 more stop in the stars; yep Sam's Club. Although we had stocked up the first week we arrived we thought this maybe the best time to double up on paper products and some good savings on other quality products. Finally we are on the way and its 95 and HOT. As we crossed the continental divide the temp was 82 and a welcome relief from down under so much so we had to stop in Roaring Gap for nutty buddies for Nancy and Helen. Joe and I are still burping up lunch so there won't be any thing to hit my stomach until tomorrow. We shared lots of laughs; both from old stories, jokes and just plain being silly. Until tomorrow missing all our family and especially our grandaughters.
