A Fun Day on the Longest Day of the year!!!

Well, the day started out as usual with 60 degrees and the look of rain. We did get a small shower during the night but not enough to measure. We could use some rain as the grass isn't growing(kinda nice so I don't have to mow as often) and I'm hand watering the garden and flower beds. I have several small zucchini's on the vine so won't be long until we have grilled zucchini, fried zucchini and zucchini pie, YUMM. I hated squash went I was young but my taste buds have changed and now I would eat it every day or every other day. Nancy even makes a great squash casserole...... I finally got to use the new bench in the woods for some quiet time.... After breakfast I managed to polyurethane the new safety gates for the stairs and the picture painting Nancy did for a neighbor...... Nancy made a super corn casserole and macaroni salad for the afternoon cookout of roasted weiners and hamburgers for our company. They arrived around 1PM and stayed until after 9PM. We had a great time visiting, playing, hiking and of course eating. The Carlson's are long time friends from Florida who moved to Clemmons,N.C. about a 2 year's ago. We were close to them as he was our youth pastor and leader for our children in Seminole. We have pics of their 3 girls visiting our cabin when they were but babies, so they have know our place here as well as in Seminole, all of their lives. The girls are now in the 10th,8th and 7th grades. They are such a delight and are very athletic as we played tons of badminton, pitched soft ball and even played around with a volleyball as well as took a nice long hike to the top of the mountain. We finished the evening playing "chicken foot" dominoes while polishing off a whole apple pie(Jenny made) with vanilla ice cream. Yummm.... Just an update on 2 of our local mountain friends who are hurting; Ray was in the hospital in Elkin over night for abdominal pain. The doctors were unable to find anything after all the tests were complete and he is back home, Kimberly our raucous Sequence player and long time friend was bucked off a horse on Friday and was nearly very seriously injured. She suffered a fractured ankle, was kicked in the head(actually hurt the horses foot with her hard head) and her chest was stepped on. She is a hurting girl but nothing that won't heal, except her pride as she is quite a "horse person."We love both Ray and Kimberly and are thankful they are both well enough to be home......Well after a full day we gearing up for arrival of our friends, Dan and Carol Botbyl from Florida. They plan to arrive on Sunday evening and will stay to Thursday morning before going on to New Jersey. Later, missing our babies and grand babies
