Wednesday

The morning started out with grey skies and just an occasional sprinkle but after our quiet times and a lite breakfast(oatmeal with fresh red raspberries for Nancy and left over buckwheat cakes for me) I headed outside to walk around the the yard and gardens. I still have yellow squash blooming with a couple little ones attached, don't know if they will make but there is a slim chance unless it frosts. The herbs are looking good as well as the pepper plants and the zinnia's are still beautiful with the fall daisy's, mums and marigolds being just gorgeous.

We did our one and only hike today to the top of the mountain and it was splendid the only concern was for a heavy rain shower which failed to materialize and eventually the clouds became broken and periods of sunshine enveloped us which made for a really nice day. Today was the first time I haven't worn shorts all day. After our hike we headed over to our "mountain moms," Helen to climb her apple tree and pick about a bushel or so. This is only the second year it has produced any fruit. We or I then dug up some peonies from one of her flower beds as she wanted to be rid of them and brought them back to my bed for planting. I just love them as they remind of the old home place in Mountain Falls and the smell is wonderful and when in full bloom they compete for one of the more beautiful blooms, of course ants love them as well.

We headed over to Helens brother Joe to pick a few green and red peppers as well as tomatoes that were just beautiful and so healthy. He can grow these 2 veggies like no one I've ever seen. We walked around his hill top place which he keeps manicured and looking great and that keeps him busy and active. It was a nice visit and so good to see him again.

After a lunch of some deer salami( our friend Andy gave us) on crackers with a bowl Ramen noodle soup we headed back outside to do some flower bed work. We took off all the dried heads of the cone flowers, weed whacked the dried tops and stalks of the daisies and pulled weeds while I dug up a new beds for my peonies. The weather forecast is for rain on Thursday so we got these done just in case they are right for a change. We do need the rain as its really dry.

We headed out to do some sight seeing actually we were looking at the beautiful Fall colors as the leaves are not quite peak, but many trees are just dazzling in their beautiful reds, orange and yellows. Wow, some were just so beautiful, but we had a difficult time finding a place to pull over and take a picture, anyhow Nancy had a hair appointment at 3:30 so after leaving her I headed off to drop off my cumadin prescription, buy a bulb for my flashlight and go to the library for a couple reads. I picked up Nancy at 5:15 and she looked dazzling with her hair cut and color. We headed over to The Pines Restaurant where we met our old friends Walt and Theila for supper. We hadn't seen much of them the past year or so and it was good to see them. We had a great supper and saw several old friends and had a short but pleasant visit with them. We got back home around 8 after stopping off at the drugstore and Lowes grocery for a few things.

Well we had a full and fun day, LATER.
