Tuesday

Yikes it was a bit nippy last night with the breeze as the temp's were down into the low 50's this AM, but there was bright sunshine throughout most of the day. After our morning quiet times we had a good old time breakfast of bacon, eggs, grits and toast. Wow do my taste buds miss those buddies but my big belly says stick with the oatmeal and fruit. I ventured out to check on the gardens and found little or no damage from the slugs except for a couple okra seedlings that seem to have been acted upon by some creature and aren't looking to good.

We headed out to the top of the mountain on our first hike of the day and ran into our old friend Norm on top and chatted for a few, he is quite the character. The hike was uneventful except for a large doe which jumped out of the brush and startled us. I think that was the first deer I've seen up close since we've here. We got back after the hour plus hike and had a lite lunch as we were entertaining Helen and Joe for supper around 4:30. I spent the rest of the day changing out the front screen door, putting out mole bait and just doing some little honeydo's.

We had fresh burgers on the grill and Nancy did oven spuds rolled in olive oil and fresh rosemary as well as baked beans. I did a head of cabbage for cold slaw and she did a vanilla pudding with banana extract in a layered graham cracker and fresh sliced banana's for dessert. Joe and Helen hung around after eating while I built a campfire. After they left we headed out on a walk out to the mailbox which is just about a mile each way with a couple really nice hills. The walking was easier but seemed so much longer. I did a few more mole tunnels with poison peanuts when we got back after all that walking and there was no mail.

Well its another day drawing to a close with enough light outside to still see a ways back into the woods. There are a few clouds around and we could actually use a little rain as I've been watering by hand in the mornings so as to not promote the wet conditions at night for slugs. Well better run, got to speak with both son and daughter today as well as grand daughter Ava, LATER
