Tuesday and Wednesday

Tuesday morning started out with sleeping in until 7:30 and after our quiet times Nancy made pancakes and eggs. We are out of buckwheat flour but hope to replenish that as son Bobby and family aren't crazy about the buckwheat mix. After breakfast the phone rang and it was a church member who needed someone to take Angel Food orders for her from 3-6 PM at Cornerstone. That kind of changed our day but we are retired and there was a need so we didn't really get into anything big. I finished digging up the Galax plants, spreading the dirt and sowing grass seed in the back woods yards. While doing that Nancy did her mountain top hike without me. We had a lite lunch of raw veggies and a 'mater sandwich before getting ready to head out about 2:30.

Well demand for Angel Food has really slowed down in this area as we took no orders for the 3 hours we were available. It's really a good buy and especially for folks on a limited income. After leaving Cornerstone we stopped and picked up an 8 pack of deli fried chicken at Lowes grocery. That had to have been the best fried chicken I've eaten since my Aunt Nancy use to make it every year for our family reunion. Bobby just loved her fried chicken when he was a kid.

We got home ate fried chicken, sliced tomatoes and cukes then attempted to get on line. Well that was a bust even with tech support help. We could not get an IP address(what ever that is) so we were left without any contact to the outside world except by phone. The same thing happened the night before but the tech was able to get us on after an hour of doing all kinds of computer stuff. We are at the mercy of this one horse outfit, oh well the price of being in the mountains. We actually sat on the couch and watched Texas beat California in the Little League World Series. Go Texas!!! We don't know why but we like their coach.

Wednesday brought a cool 60 degree morning with a heavy dew and and bright sunshine. Once again we slept in until nearly 8 AM..Yikes is that getting to be a habit?? After our quiet times and a left over pancake I checked to see if we were back in contact with outside world via the Internet and YEA we could get on. Things were looking up so far until Nancy did a check on the upstairs commode and noticed that water was once again around its base. I replaced the wax ring a couple days ago after finding it wet for the first time since it was installed 13-14 years ago. Anyhow it seems the rubber grommet that surrounds the bolts that attach the tank to the base had loosened so I tightened those bolts and may have to replace them eventually, but for now they are holding. I had trimmed a couple low limbs for my elderly neighbor from his hickory tree for the wood for my smoker on Tuesday so I sawed them up into 3-4 inch pieces using my table saw. I got a full 5 gallon bucket of Hickory pieces.

Nancy was ready to hike after hanging her second load of laundry so we headed out to the top of the mountain. That hike is a really a good workout and by now the temp's were beginning to rise. There were lots of clouds moving in which increased the humidity but the rain held off. After a lite lunch of raw cauliflower, cucumbers and tomatoes with ranch dip I headed out to the back yard in the woods and began to collect rocks, sticks and stumps that were showing through in the grass. I decided to call it day around 2:30 as we were expecting Joe and Helen for supper around 4:30. No sooner did I get cleaned up than neighbors George and Gail came by for a visit. If you remember Gail fell a couple months and broke her ankle, shoulder blade and tail bone. Neighbor Gerald and myself assisted in getting help to her and with getting her up their steep hill on a stretcher. Anyhow they stayed until nearly 4 PM about 15minutes before our company was coming for supper. Well Nancy and I went into overdrive as she made the cornbread from scratch and I cleaned the bass and got it really to be dipped in egg for frying. She also got the rice to cooking and I chopped onions for the pinto beans. We were about really for them as I had a cast iron skillet of bass frying on the grill when they drove up.

Supper was yummy with the bass(fresh caught in Helen's pond) rice, beans and a salad made from my garden with Greek dressing and corn bead. Yeow was that ever good eatin' and dessert was the best. We sent 2 big pieces of cake home with them. Well after the dishes were washed and put away we decided to check out our new mountain bikes we purchased last week. We hadn't been to the mail bow so we thought lets check out these 18 gears. The most used gear was us pushing the bikes up the hills. It sure was scary fun going down the hills on gravel at breakneck speed but slow going up hill. I think we will save these bikes for the New River Trail where its relatively flat. Next time we will opt out to golf cart to the mailbox which is bout a 2 mile round trip.

Well it was a fun day, lots of good healthy eatin' and plenty of exercise. Later.
