Thursday

Well it was just beautiful here this morning with temps into the 60's with bright sunshine and no humidity, Yikes it will be hard to leave here weather wise for the chilly hills. After our usual quiet times and lite breakfast I rode out to the rec on the bike for some pickle ball. Wow we only had 7 players today but what a workout as there was little time for breaks and the play was great. We had a new fellow for the first time and he was very good of course he is a tennis player which makes all the difference in this game as they both require good eye hand coordination and racket head control.

I headed home to water the few surviving plants and take a few pot shots at the squirrels. Amy and the grand kids came for lunch and afterwards they took off for the mall. Ava stayed with me and watched her new movies she checked out from the local library. I got the rib roast ready to put on the smoker at 2 PM. Well did that ever turn out delicious at media rare and along with oven taters, green beans and a salad we had a feast. The meat was fantastic at just 3 hours in the smoker with some apple wood and just a touch of mesquite. Perfect and the flavor was great as well with the olive oil rub in fresh garlic, rosemary, red pepper flakes, cracked pepper, sea salt and Worcester sauce. Wow I let these ingredients blend for about an hour before applying it to the fat side of the roast which I had crisscrossed with a sharp knife. Superb!!! Let the roast set for about 20-30 minutes after taking it from the smoker.

Well GG, Pap, Amy came for supper and little Ava had 4 serving of the meat which we usually have a hard time getting her to eat, but she liked this meat as well as did everyone else. I have just enough from the 3 rib bone roast(5-6 lbs) for sandwiches tomorrow for lunch.

Well the Rays got blown away again by the Rangers so it a must win the next 3 in a row to advance in the playoffs. They are not alone as the Yankees beat the Twins for their second loss as well. LATER

Wednesday

Well the temps here in usually Hot sunny Florida has moderated we are making plans to head back to the mountains for a couple weeks on Sunday. The temps there are a bit chilly at night from what we've heard but nice Fall weather during the day. Our mornings here are about the same with quiet times, lite breakfast(I'm back on oatmeal and fruit) and then a ride to the rec for pickle ball. We had a nice crowd with some really good play for 2 continuous hours before I pedalled home to do a little tree work on the tree behind us.

I sawed off several branches letting in lots of light and also made it more difficult for the squirrels that invade my garden as they head into the hood on the power lines then jump off into neighboring trees. I know you think I'm making a big deal about squirrels but they are very damaging pests that will just not go away, so every time I see one in the trees I load him up with a BB, of course I seldom make contact but at least they run off.

We had a salad for lunch and ate alone as Amy took off to Tampa with kids to visit Tyler for lunch. It sure was quiet around here. I tuned into the Ray's after lunch to watch them get a whupping at the hands of the Texas Rangers by a 5-1 score. The Ray's haven't been impressive the last couple weeks even if they did win the pennant in their division. Sure hope they put it together today as the next 2 games are in Texas.

We headed out to our local house church for a meeting and supper. Nancy made a huge pot of Tortilla soup and they was also Zuppa and a fresh garden salad as well as a pumpkin pie. I stayed away from the pie but had a bowl of each of the soups. After church we headed back to watch a little of the other playoff games before calling it a night. LATER

Tuesday

Well the morning started with the usual routine of; green tea, quiet time, supplements, lite eats(Reliv bar) and a ride to the rec on the bike for pickle ball at 7:45 AM. We had only 8 players today which really made it nice as the play was continuous for over 2 hours. Yikes was I bushed when I finally headed home on the bike with a wet shirt. I did a little gardening when I got back and some hand watering as well.

Amy and the grand babies came for lunch and then it was playtime for about an hour before they headed home for their naps. Nancy and I headed over to her folks to trim some bushes and hedges for them and then we visited for awhile before heading out to the vegetable stand for some fruit and 'maters. We ran into our old friends Ralph and Sarah Ann Payne who were just leaving the fruit stand. They looked great and it was such a joy to see them in good health once again. They use to visit Galax, Va every year during the summer but some health issues have limited them the last couple years.

We came back to the house to get ready for heading over to Tyler and Amy's for supper. She made a marvelous King Ranch Chicken casserole along with fresh salsa and was it ever good. We hung around until after dark before heading home. Well, we are making plans for leaving next Sunday to head back to the cabin. Nancy's dad's health seems to be improving so we hope to spend until the middle of November there if it doesn't get too cold. LATER

Sunday and Monday

Well we headed out to Tampa after our quiet times and a lite breakfast to worship at Element Church with our son and the great body of believers there. They were celebrating their second birthday and what a nice crowd and with tons of kids in attendance. We hung around as the blood mobile was there also and Nancy gave blood. I passed this time because of the cumadin I'm still taking. Hopefully I can get off this medicine soon, although I don't feel any effects that I'm aware of.

We got home around 1:30 and then had some leftovers for lunch from the night before and just relaxed watching some Ray's baseball and football. Not much else going on for Sunday.

Monday found us back to our routine with an early rise, quiet times, lite breakfast then off to the rec on the bike for some pickle ball. We had 18 players and lots of continuous play for 2 solid hours. Their were lots of wet shirts. After PB I headed home to work in the garden or whats left of it after the squirrels have ruined all but 4 tomato plants and digging into my recently planted beans and sugar peas. So I declared war on them and began taking pot shots into the trees with my BB gun. I managed to flip a couple with direct hits and keep them pretty much away the rest of the day. The temps have been really nice with low 70's and no humidity so we had the windows open most of the day until after dark.

After a supper of grilled marinated chicken breast on a salad we took off with neighbors Dan and Carol for a long walk through the hood. It was a great evening with a nice breeze. Yeow now this is Florida weather in the winter. LATER

A few pics from Saturday nights get together

Saturday

Yikes the hot humid air has made a u-turn down here in sunny Florida for a couple hours. It was actually very comfortable outside this AM. Looking forward to some more great weather for here and of course some chilly temps in the mountains(if we get back there). After our quiet times, lite breakfast and heading out to water the tomato plants I got ready to help Nancy get ready for the big family get together later this evening.

I did the vacuuming, cleaned the light shades and fans and shot at a few squirrels with my BB gun who were digging once again in my recently planted seeds. These bushy tails are a real pain as they constantly dig in the new grass sprouts as well dig in the garden. The BBS don't kill them but do cause them to flip over when struck. It's rather comical to watch them if I get lucky and make a hit. They are really very destructive and we have so many here, actually there are more squirrels in my 'hood than in the mountain 'hood. I will eat them from up there(mountains) as they are very tasty if only Nancy would let me.

Well I got a little reading in between honey-do's, a little football and a small power nap before family started to arrive. Pap and GG came first as he is back driving at least for the day. He seems much better than last week with no swelling in the feet and legs and his appetite improved greatly. He actually was pleasant with no temper tantrums so things are looking up. Bob, Jill, Annsley and baby Gabey arrived and there was much fan fare for him as it was the first he had been seen on this side of the bay. He has gained a little over a pound in just 2 weeks and no wonder as he sucks down 3 ounces in no time flat. He was held most of the evening and seemed so content with an occasional smile and whimper. Such a cutie and little Samuel just looked and smiled at him. They will be best buds in a couple years. Ava and Annsley played great together and they were in the toy room most of the evening until neighbor Phoenix came by for awhile . He is 4 now and where did the time go??

The dinner was very succulent as we purchased a pork rib roast with the bones in which leaves the meat so much juicer. Wow was that ever tasty along with smashed taters and Bob made the gravy, Lima beans, carrots and a toss salad. Yumm!! GG wanted chocolate cream pie for dessert and we all had at least 2 pieces. I could not turn that down as it was delightful and delicious. We sat around afterwards watching a little football and the Rays as they finally won a game, yea!!!!

It was close to 9 or so when everyone started to pack up and head home. There was another hour of clean up before we could finally hit the showers. The Gators got manhandled by the Crimson Tide again, the Seminoles and USF won their games big. Today the BUCS win( cause they have a bye) and hopefully the Rays will win out and capture the pennant in their division. Its over to Tampa this AM for worship at Element Church. Bob is celebrating the 2nd birthday of the church he planted and we are excited and anticipating a large gathering also its bloody Sunday as the blood mobiles will be in the parking lot all morning. What better way to reach out to the community by giving to those who have a need for life saving blood. LATER

Friday

Well what a busy day as it started out the usual with our few quiet moments to give thanks and to lift those up we know in thoughts and prayers for healing, then a lite breakfast(banana for me) before jumping on the old bike and a ride to the rec for some 2 hours of pickle ball. Yeow, I love that game, great competition we have and of course the wet shirts from all that sweat. I did a few crunches afterwards in the weight room for these sagging gut muscles before heading over to the library for a couple of non-fiction reads.

I made it back to the house around 11 and Nancy was gone with her folks to the doctor for her dad then out to lunch for her mom's birthday. Well needless to say the food was lousy as they went to GG's choice called Pete and Shorty's on Pinellas Park and of course her dad was a real pain in the rump with his attitude and short temper. Nancy was really stressed when she got back around 1:30. Meanwhile I did some spading in the garden and got it ready to plants 1/2 runner pole beans and sugar peas. I'm planting this year by the signs of the moon and Friday was a good day for planting veggies that produce above the ground. I also sowed several herbs seeds in pots as well as Swiss chard, kale and broccoli which I will transplant later. I once again was wringing wet with sweat but at least it was down into the 80's for a change from the high 90's and there was a nice breeze. The tomato plants I set out a couple days ago where really beat up by a very heavy storm that must have dropped 3-4 inches of rain in a couple hours; don't know if they will make it or not.

I headed out for a blood draw to Quest Labs and for a change didn't have to wait at all. We got back and did some reading until it was time to fry up some bass that Andy(mountain friend and fisherman) had given me. Man oh man was that ever good eatin'. Thanks to him and Caleb for sharing their catch with us. We sure miss them as well as all our mountain friends and family and especially the scenery. Oh my we could use a little of that chilly weather which is heading their way this week end, according to Rays weather .com. The high is only in the 50's next week with some 30's for the low at the cabin. Yikes, that sounds great!!. We are hopeful we can get back up after Annsley birthday party on the 9th either on Sunday or Monday for at least a couple weeks. We need some relief from all the drama here with her folks as well as some mountain time with our friends there as well, plus we must get ready our garden there for next year and to winterize the cabin.

Well we are having the whole family tonight(Sat.) to celebrate Nancy's mom's 82 birthday with a roast pork dinner, smashed spuds and gravy and all the trimmings. Bob and Jill are bringing baby Gabey out so our side of the family over here in Pinellas can see, hold and love on him for the first time and to meet with his cousins Ava and Samuel. Should be a fun evening with too much to eat once again. Well I'm losing some faith in the Rays as they once again got slaughtered by the Royals and it looks as if they won't win the pennant. Their hitting is terrible, pitching stinks and really I don't know how they can go into the playoffs with the way they are playing ball. Oh well!! Later..
