Sunday

Well it was great to visit our old church this morning and hug many whom we hadn't seen in months; a few we hadn't seen in a couple years. We learned a few had passed on and many were having health issues due to their age but it was wonderful to renew many old friendships. Amy our daughter and her family are regular there and very much involved. We heard a good message and took the LORD'S SUPPER; while the praise music was sedated it was inspiring. After church we headed home and Nancy made a grocery run for a few things as Amy invited us over to their place for lunch which had been cooking in the crock pot all morning.

We enjoyed a kielbasa soup or stew which was very tasty and I fixed a large salad and we had crusty bread to go with. They finished up the leftover chocolate pie from last nights supper. We played with Sam and Ava until it was time for Ava to go to a costume party with one of her school friends, she was dressed to look like Dorothy and her hand basket with Toto the dog. She was adorable and is such a sweet little girl. Sam was being a boy and he crashed and burned a couple times while being wide open, but he also is a sweet boy and just melts your heart. We spoke with son Bobby and little Gabriel has RSV again and is having to take breathing treatments a couple times a day, so keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

After that scrumptious lunch we headed home to water the gardens and watch a little of the NFL about the only game worth watching was the Steeler vs the Patriots game and it was a good one. The Bucs were on a bye this week and so they didn't stink up the T.V. or have another bad loss. I started another read and its a good one about a British Army soldier who managed to trade places with a Jewish prisoner in Auschwitz during the Holocaust. Wow is it ever a good read and he was honored and received by PM Brown at a ceremony where he was awarded a medal of humanity. Great read and I will post the title tomorrow and this chap is still alive while into his 90's.

Nancy headed out to the rehab after a lite supper of a frozen pizza to visit with her dad and give her mom a ride home. I watched more football in between reading this exciting and true life story and decided to cut the lights around 10:30.

I almost forgot to mention we had a nice long chat via the telephone with our "mountain mom" during the afternoon. She said it was 28 degrees there this morning but had warmed up to a balmy 65 in the afternoon with bright sunshine and she remarked the leaves on the mountain were just gorgeous. They had some "wind snow" but nothing laid on the ground. All is well there with her and her brother Joe who lives near by. We certainly didn't get to do much with them this past summer as we usually do all kinds of fun things; mainly because of our return trips due to Nancy's dad's health; we were only there for 10 weeks all together this year. We are hoping next summer will give us more time with them. Well better go, LATER

Saturday

Well it was a day of major temperature change from hot and muggy to cool and crisp. Not cold but at least cool enough to once again open the house up to fresh air. We had rain and drizzle for most of the morning until around lunch time when the sun broke through but it was still muggy until late in the evening when a rush of cool air from the north came through, that is so nice and now only if it will stay this way for awhile.

The morning started out a little different as I stayed in bed until nearly 7 AM even after the rooster next door crowed his usual time but finally gave up. We did our quiet times then had a lite breakfast; Nancy with oatmeal and I had 2 slices of pumpkin nut bread. We got ready to head out to meet up with our house church at Twill Auto Shop in St.Pete. Dan our neighbor and dear friend owns a family run auto repair and he offers the use of his shop every 3 months to help out single moms. Its one of our Element house church outreach ministries. We have the moms sign up for an appointment during the hours of 9-12 then we change their oil, filter, check air pressure in their tires and even plug a few, change burnt out bulbs and do some minor repairs all for free. The girls(house church members wives) share coffee and donuts with them as well and listen to their stories in the waiting areas and then present them with a free $10 gas gift card. We have several who are now repeat moms as they enjoy the $40 value but they need some attention and love from others. That's just one of our ways of sharing the blessings we have to others and who are strangers.I think we did 16 cars with just a few no-shows.

We finished up with the appointments just before noon so we headed home to get 2 whole chickens stuffed with rosemary and basil from my garden along with a beer in the rear. I loaded the smoker with hickory wood I brought back from the mountains and let those birds cook until about 5:30. They were magnificent and the meat fell off the bones with just a great smokey flavor tinted with the taste of rosemary. Yikes they were masterpieces. Nancy also rolled skin on red potato's in olive oil along with chopped up fresh rosemary and parsley also from my garden and roasted them in the oven. There was fresh greens beans from the market but we had jalapeno poppers for the appetizer and later during Phase 10 a chocolate cream pie for dessert. What a feed that was.

While chickens were smoking, Nancy took off to the rehab with her mom and visited with her dad while I vacuumed and did some small chores. I finished a read then caught some college football as we were expecting Dan and Carol around 5:30 for supper. Florida lost to Georgia in a close game and W.Va came back to beat Rutgers on a snow filled field. Thats right, snow in the mountains in October. That's a little early for that type of weather. It seems all along the eastern seaboard and mountains areas snow was evident with cold temps.

Supper was yummy and afterwards we played a round of Phase 10 with Carol beating us all and then 9 holes of Golf(card game) Nancy won convincingly. Was not a good night for the guys. They stayed until nearly 11 PM as we chatted about what type of project or ministry we should do for the Christmas season. I was finally able to get a shower and hit the sack around 11:30(way past my bedtime). Anyhow it was a fun day, good eatin' and a chance to do a good deed for those moms who are struggling to raise a family. LATER

Friday

Well today was a day of being busy once again so the time just slipped away so fast. The morning was pretty much the usual with a wake up by the roosters next door, then a few moments to reflect, give thanks and seek special needs and healing for those we know and love who are hurting. Afterwards I had a bowl of cereal with a banana then got ready to ride to the rec on my bike. It was drizzling rain so I rode fast as Nancy had a 9:15 appointment for blood work(her 6 months checkup due to the fact she is on Lipitor) and I didn't want to miss an hour of pickle ball. We had a full crew today with some great play and lots of wet shirts.I was ready for a break after 2 plus hours of play.

I stopped by the library and picked up a couple reads I had ordered through the on-line system of requesting books. Wow, I love this system and that's in N.C. as well at our little pee dunk library in Sparta. Nancy and I both took advantage of it the short time we were in the mountains the past couple years. Anyhow after picking up those reads I headed home under overcast skies. The morning rain had stopped but the humidity was so high and with the 80+ we decided to dry the house out and once again turned on the a/c. Nancy took off to drive her mom to the rehab and got back in time to have lunch with Amy and Sam as Ava stayed at school to have lunch and play with her school mates. She loves school and is adjusting very well. I made a large salad and Amy ate left over Tortilla soup.

After lunch Sam and I went outside to play in the back yard and Amy had to pick Ava up so when she got home we all(the kids and I) stayed in the back yard. Sam playing with the rooster through the fence and Ava looking for lizards to catch. She is fast and usually catches them but occasionally does them in the process. We had a fun time and both of them are outside kids and they will be gardeners as well as they want to plant something new all the time. I have some many flowers planted that when they bloom Ava will be in her glory picking off the blooms.

After the kiddos left I started a new read titled LEAP INTO DARKNESS, a true story of a young Jewish 17 year old boy who eluded the Nazi's and survived the Holocaust. Great read and its loaded with pictures of his family and those who assisted him in his survival.

Well Amy and Tyler had a date night so we had the kiddos for supper and we ate leftovers. They love Nancy's chicken fried deer steak and Sam ate the best I've ever seen him eat meat. We also had mashed potato's, turnip greens and white rice. After the clean up it was playtime until it was bath time then Nancy had to go and pick up her mom at the rehab and drive her home and had a short visit with her dad. She said he was in good spirits and looked the best she had seen him in days. The kids and I watched Tangled and rough housed on the floor. That Sam is a tough little guy and he and Ava are like two wrestlers. Ava mentioned she was excited about spending the evening with us because "we are the fun people". Well that was quite a compliment, both Nancy and I were delighted and tickled to hear that.

Well I tuned in to the 7th game of the Series late as I thought that game would go back to Texas to be played on Saturday. I watched a couple innings and the Red Birds were winning by a couple runs when I decided to turn off the lights. I just can't get into it after our team was knocked out in the playoffs, but there was some interest just not much after 10:30PM. Saturday will be a busy day with a free oil change for single moms put on by our house church, then beer in the rear chicken(maybe I could substitute the crowing rooster next door) for supper with neighbors and hopefully a little Phase 10 afterwards. Thursday

Once again we had clear skies, bright sunshine and the temps were in the low 80's. We still have the windows open but that could change if the humidity continues to rise. There is still a nice breeze which keeps if comfortable. The morning started out the usual except I didn't hear the roosters next door until nearly 6:30. At first I thought maybe an animal like a possum or raccoon may have taken care of that big beak during the night; but he was an hour or so late, wishful thinking!!!

I rode out to the rec for my couple hours of pickle ball after a bowl of Cheerios and banana and my quiet time. After the rec I stopped off at the library and picked up a read then headed home to work in the garden until lunch time. Amy and the kiddos decided to go to the park for a picnic lunch and playtime on the playground equipment so it was quiet around during lunch and afterwards. Nancy and I shared a large leftover salad from house church last night and boy was it good especially with lots of fresh sweet basil from my garden. After lunch she took off to drive her mom to the rehab for the day with her dad.

I chilled for a couple hours until the sun was shaded on the other garden then I headed out to transplant yellow squash and more lettuce seedlings in the ground. The garden loves this weather with warm sunny days and nights down into the 60's. We are for casted for some much needed rain this weekend with once again temps only in the 70's for the highs. Looks like it might start to become Florida weather for the winter instead of the scorching heat and high humidity.

I did a little reading outside under the big oak before supper and boy could I smell the wonderful cubed deer steak dipped in milk then flour and into a hot skillet, yikes that is the best meat ever and I made a milk gravy in the skillet after frying and we put that over mashed whipped potato's and along with fresh asparagus it was a meal fit for a king. Once again I have to give credit to the way our mountain buddy, Andy who harvested the deer and the way he processes it afterwards. Mucho Thanks again.

Well I had to pick up Nancy's mom from the rehab around 8 o'clock and drive her home and there hasn't been much improvement in her dad's health. His eating has improved but he still has other problems and he still can't stand without support on either side. Continue to keep him and all of us in your thought and prayers. Well I watched a little if the Series and when I cut the lights off in the 7th inning the Rangers were winning by one, LATER

Wednesday

Once again it turned out to be another beautiful day although the temps and humidity rose a little more and if it gets any more muggier we will have the a/c back on, but that's Florida. The garden sure loves this weather except for no rain in the past couple weeks, luckily I have a shallow well with what appears to be plenty of water; so I can water my yard and gardens daily. The morning was the usual with the "fowl wake up", my quiet time and then a bowl of Cheerios with fruit then a ride out to the rec for a couple hours of pickle ball. We had a full crew today with some fast, exciting and long rallies. Wow, our group of players have become great players and so much improvement in their games, its really a great game for exercise and fitness.

Well after the rec I headed home to work in the back garden; transplanting more lettuce and flower seedlings. I now have yellow squash breaking ground and I need to transplant kale seedlings as well in the next couple days. The Swiss chard is putting on a third and fourth leave so I need to get them in the ground as well and out of the seedling beds. I just about have the garden space accounted for this year. I usually try a different plant or vegetable each year as in the past I've grown; parsnips, artichokes, bok choy, etc. I guess this is the first time I've grown Zinnias for here in Florida as I usually take the seedlings with me to the mountain gardens. They are a beautiful flower and you never know the color or how many flower heads are on one plant. This past summer I had 20 some heads on one plant and they were just beautiful and they can stand the heat and the cold better than any flowering plant.

Nancy took off to drive her mom to the rehab around noon after her 30 minutes on the treadmill at the rec, so we had an early lunch as Amy and the kiddos went to Tampa to have lunch with Tyler. I chilled and read most of the afternoon until it was time to run out for a few items at the store. We came back and I sat under the big oak in the back yard and kept the squirrels out of my garden while she made a huge pot of Tortilla soup to take to house church along pumpkin nut bread, yikes both of those were hits. Carol made a pot of chicken noodle soup to go along with what we brought so there was plenty to go around and great variety. We had a full house and most of the regulars were there. The kids entertained us and they had small pumpkins to draw on as well. It was a good time of fellowship as well. Our group is doing a FREE oil change for single moms this Saturday at Dan's shop and then giving each mom a $10 gas card as well. I think we have about 20+ moms signed for the morning. We are going to choose one family out of those to bless this Thanksgiving with an additional food basket; just a small token of giving to those who are less fortunate and without dad's.

Well the World Series was postponed due to bad weather so they will try on Thursday night. After house church we watched the last half of Survivor then read and hit the sack around 10:30. LATER

Tuesday

The humidity and the heat is starting to creep back once again but not nearly so bad thanks to a great easterly breeze which has kept it pleasant. We still have the windows open and it was nice in the back yard as Ava and Sam played for an hour or so after lunch as I worked in the garden. They are so funny especially when it comes to poking sticks and leaves through the fence at that loud mouth rooster at 5'ish in the morning.

The early morning was the usual with big beak next door waking me up. After the usual spot of green tea, a few quiet moments and then a bowl of oatmeal with fruit I rode out in the dark on the bike for the rec. We had a small crew today but enough to have great play for a couple hours and there were plenty of wet shirts. Afterwards I headed home so Nancy and I did a Sam's run and picked up a few goodies as well as gassed up. The trips to Tampa and the daily rehab runs keeps me at the gas pumps at least once a week and sometimes more. Oh well!!!

Amy and the kiddos came for lunch a little after 12 so we had or they ate a nice chicken salad Amy made, while I cleaned up some leftover's. The kiddos and I headed for the back yard as it was still nice enough to be outside. The heat can return with vengeance and probably will before it stays cool enough to call it winter but these past 4-5 days have been magnificent with fresh air and nice breeze. I love having the windows open although big beak next door is a lot louder in the early morning.

Well Nancy took off to visit her dad at the rehab after lunch when the kiddos and Amy headed home for their naps. I read and caught up on some business matters. I'm really having fun with this new endeavor and I already see the extra to our monthly income as well as receiving great products. I'm really not sure why some get turned off when you mention the name Amway, while others are just full of compliments. The products sell themselves as we have just been super pleased with the laundry, dish washing and cleaning products and they are nice to the environment. I only wish I had got involved with this multi-level business years ago as the risks are none and the cost is minimal to become an owner(IBO); but the benefits are many, especially if your team leaders are great. They offer many perks in free products and free shipping above what the company offers. If your interested in owning your own business at a ridiculously low cost let me know, I assure you it will be fun and rewarding. It also gives you the chance to offer your family and friends wholesale costs on products which you normally pay retail for at department stores as I have done. I enjoy having that freedom to make a difference.

Well Nancy fried up some great fish along with fresh parsley(out of the garden) red potato's(skins on) and fresh asparagus for supper. WOW was that ever good eatin' and did you know that asparagus is such a free radical(potential cancer cells) fighter. After the clean up we headed out on a couple mile walk through the hood. I got into the Lightning hockey game against Buffalo and we won(lightning). That is one great spectator sport with constant action and just a few rules. The puck must precede the player(s) across the blue line in order for them to score or its off sides, that's the main rule. The hitting and great skating requires these guys to be in top shape and tough. Well guess I've rambled enough for one day, LATER

Monday

The day was much routine except for the weather, wow is all I can say. The coolness of the morning as I rode out to the rec on my bike after my fowl wake up, and my few moments to reflect in gratitude for our blessings and to lift up those we know who need special care, almost made we wish I had worn a wind breaker. The day got better as it wore on with bright sunshine, NO humidity and temps into the low 70's, Yikes was it ever a gorgeous day. After my 2 1/2 hours of pickle ball I ventured into the game room where several were needing a fourth for ping pong. I stayed and played several games for nearly an hour before heading for home. I was a little bushed by now so I rested while I did some paper work and e-mail catch up until lunch.

Nancy had to leave early to drive her mom to the rehab so Amy and the kiddos came and we had a great lunch. I finished up some leftovers and afterwards the kiddos(Ava and Sam) and I headed outside to play and work in the yard. They love playing with fishin' worms or grubs and bugs so as I turned over and area in the garden to transplant more lettuce seedlings,(seems every seed came up and now I'm loaded down with too many which I hate to see go to waste) they played with anything that moved in the dirt. We transplanted some Zucchini's into the ground as well as a row of lettuce then we hand watered them. Sam had his usual stick in his hand and of course Ava had a couple flower heads as she has always found such attraction to any flower in bloom but always shreds them in the end.

After the kids left for their naps Nancy got home from the rehab and her mom's house so we just chilled sitting out in the back yard under the big oak enjoying this beautiful weather. I finished a great read titled HIGHEST DUTY by Capt.Sully Sullenberger, remember the pilot who landed the plane in the Hudson River after birds knocked both engines out on a commercial airliner in the winter a couple years ago, well what an interesting man as he shares his life story and the many lives he and his crew saved that eventful day which could have been a total disaster. A must read for those who like to read about people who are for real in all walks of life.

I grilled a couple nearly freezer burnt small steaks that we had carted back and forth to the cabin and Nancy put together her superb turnip casserole with a white sauce and bread crumbs on top baked to a golden brown. Yikes that is one great dish and I'm not particularly fond of cooked turnips but this dish is awesome and we licked the bowl clean. I can remember growing up as a kid and visiting different farms where I would be helping with farm duty such; threshing wheat, or putting hay in the barn and the dinner meal(lunch time today) would be served and there would be cooked turnips mixed in with the cooked potato's and you would bite into the squishy, no firm turnips expecting a firm spud, Yikes I hated that feeling in my mouth which would almost make me gag, but anyhow I've grown use to that feeling with Nancy's casserole. Wow is that ever good and then we had cooked frozen turnip greens as a side dish, good country eatin' for supper.

After the clean up I watered until it was time to walk the hood. We took a long walk a couple miles and I stopped to visit with a neighbor on the way back until nearly dark. I then checked some e-mails and did a little business work before getting ready to watch game 5 of the World Series. I turned it off about 10:30 as the sandman had arrived after my shower; it was still tied at 2 all then.

Well as much as we love the mountain weather, today was as nice as any there, except for the ambiance which we love being there so much. It was just another beautiful day here with the windows open, mild temps, gentle breeze and no humidity. I think that will change later in the week as there is a hurricane down in the Caribbean and we could see some rain from that occurrence.LATER

Sunday

Well we actually slept in until after 6:30 AM even with the "fowl noise" from next door, I got up and closed the bathroom window which helped. After our quiet times and a lite breakfast we got ready to head over to Tampa for worship at Element Church. The music was awesome as was the guest speaker's message about being authentic in our relationships as well getting off the couch and doing something about our beliefs and letting CHRIST be seen in us. Great thought provoking message Keith and Laura's song was awesome as well. We rode over with Dan and Carol in their new Nissan car and wow all the bells and whistles, they don't even use a key anymore to start these cars. We got to love up on Annsley and Gabe our grand babies as well as renew old friendships and acquaintances. We were low on attendance for some reason this AM maybe it was due to the cool morning, OH well.

After church we finished up the veggie soup and then I vegetated on the couch watching the lackluster Bucs lose to a lackluster Bears team. We played awful except for a couple minutes and there seems to be an official attempt to thwart any good drives they make by penalty flags. Never have I seen so many yellow flags against one team especially in critical plays, many of the penalties are very questionable but that goes with being who you are, I guess. Anyhow the score was closer than the actual game itself as we played horrible in front of a sold out stadium in England.

I finish a memoir about a survivor of the Auschwitz death camp and if you want to experience degradation read her account by Sara Nomberg-Przytk. Horrible to think that hatred was that real for another human being or for a class of folks.

We boiled a Kielbasa in beer with some onions and along white rice and sliced beets, made for a very tasty supper, afterwards I headed out to hand water the gardens and the front yard. I'm trying to stay ahead of the pesky squirrels who have decided to use the yards and gardens for their storage pantry as they have holes everywhere in the what little grass is growing.

Well I watched about half of the baseball game and the Rangers were leading when I decided to call it a night. Our weather here is still superb with the a/c off and actually long sleeves were the norm yesterday at church. Nancy's dad is about the same except he has gone back on oxygen again as he is having some difficulty with his breathing. Keep him in your prayers, thanks!!! LATER

Saturday

Well I had the opportunity to attend the USF(University of South Florida) football homecoming game at Raymond James Stadium(where the BUCS play) yesterday afternoon with son Bobby, and a couple other guys. The weather was unbelievably nice with temps in the 70's and a nice breeze. There were between 25-30 thousand fans and we all saw a great game except for the last minute when Cincinnati came from behind and won in a close game. That was my first college game except for when I attended Garner-Webb College in Boiling Springs, N.C. back many moons ago. The seats we had were first class as the athletic director for USF fixed us up as he and his family attend Element Church.

The weather here is just gorgeous and the garden is really taking off. I didn't do a whole lot the rest of the day except water the gardens when I got home from the game and then watered the front yard until dark. I grilled some marinated chicken breasts and along with a baked potato, broccoli and carrots, so we had a fine feed. I did a little reading and watched a little more college football on the tube before catching the first part of the third game of the World Series and watching the Lightning win(don't you just love remotes). The Red Birds were winning when I cut the lights off about 10:30. We just don't watch many sports in this house, but I do every chance we get. Nancy is in on the couch with the remote and I'm in the bedroom with the sports channel and occasionally Man vs Wild.

Well tomorrow is worship together at Element Church in Tampa. If you want to get out of the cold and overcast days of up north we have plenty of sunshine down here to go around, so come on down.LATER

Friday

Well it was one of those days that's just unbelievable weather wise. After the usual wake up with the dueling birds, my quiet time and the bowl of oatmeal with a banana I climbed on the bike for my ride to the rec for 2 1/2 hours of pickle ball. We had a good crowd today with some very good play right up to the end with lots of wet shirts.

I headed home and the crispness in the air was just so invigorating that I spent the next couple hours outside in the garden. It was in the low 70's by lunch time and Nancy had gone to pick up her mom so we had meatloaf sandwiches and a bowl of homemade veggie soup, Wow did that ever taste good. We had to close the windows as the cool air made everyone chilly even though it was in the 70's yikes have we become so use to the 90's that our body thermostats are out of whack. After that lunch Nancy drove her mom to the rehab and I headed back out into the yard.

I mowed, edged, weed whacked, pulled weeds and trimmed. It was just one of those days we so long for here in the semi-tropics of Florida it certainly reminded of a spring morning in the mountains at our cabin. The skies were blue with bright sunshine and along with the gentle breeze it was glorious. After the yard work I headed back into the garden to pull weeds and loosen the soil around some seedlings and transplanted more Zinnias and Marigolds. Ava will love coming to my back yard when all of these come into bloom as she loves to pick flowers.

Well I spent the afternoon outside and it was delightful. We found some fresh Salmon on sale for 5 Bucks a pound at a local grocery so Nancy on her way back from taking her mom stocked up; by freezing the fresh fish in bags of water it insulates the fish from freezer burn and it tastes just like the day you bought. We had a nice piece that I grilled along with garlic buttered Angel hair pasta and sauteed spinach, Yikes was that ever good eatin'.

Well Saturday's plans for me include something I've not done since 1964 and that is go to a college football game. Bobby had tickets to the USF(University of South Florida) given to him and (I believe they are a ranked team or were at one time) he and I are doing a little father son bonding. The day should be great with temp's into the low 70's and bright sunshine. Looking forward to that experience. I know a couple years ago when we had season tickets to the BUCS(when they were good) we had great fun together cheering on our team.

Well just a reminder to those who haven't checked out our Amway store for this month's super special, only about a week left to do so. The prices you see are retail at our store but if you want to become a preferred customer send me an e-mail or a note on this blog and we can do some discounts. Its not often in this economic downtrend that offers like this come along to save a few bucks and get quality merchandise. LATER

Thursday

Well the first signs of Fall and Winter are here in the Tampa Bay area as we awakened of course to Mr. Big Beak and cool air streaming down from the North. It was in the 60's and reached only the high 70's, for the day and I loved it!! There was enough of a breeze to keep the mosquitoes down as I worked in the garden and yard. After my quiet time and a bowl of oatmeal I jumped on the bike and headed to the rec for some nearly 2 1/2 hours of pickle ball. We had a good crew and the play was continuous until nearly 10 AM. I had drunk an energy drink about 9 AM and I was wired, it was one we had purchased from ourselves and oh was it ever dewicheous(Annsley)0carbs, 0sugar but packed with B Vitamins and caffeine, so if your sluggish or need me a pick-me-up try one of these babies; I felt like I was on a high until suppertime.

I stopped at the library and picked up a couple reads before heading home in the bright sunshine, blue skies and cool gentle breezes; now remember anything below 95 degrees and 80% humidity is cool and nice to be outside. I spent and hour or so just watering and picking dead leaves out of my seedlings in the garden. The garden is looking good and I have Zucchini and Yellow squash seeds breaking ground. Its starting to look as if the garden is well on its way. The orchids are so vibrant in their deep purple colors and just lovely to look at, I sure hope the white ones make as they are exquisite and what aroma, I never new orchids had such fragrance.

Amy and the kiddos came for lunch and we had a grand time playing and seeing so much progress with them, Ava now writes her name very well and Sam is all boy and very interested in everything he can reach, so cute and such personality. They are both just the sweetest and so adorable. They came back for supper as Nancy made a huge pot of fresh vegetable beef soup; oh my was that ever dewicheous on this Fall day as we have the windows and doors open. She also made corn muffins and with butter and homemade black raspberry jam(from the cabin) it was to die for. Tyler came as well as he was teaching ESL at church and we had a chance to play out back after eating. The air was so fresh and clean and cool(70's). I have plenty of seedlings so he is coming by tomorrow and get some for his garden.

After the supper cleanup Nancy headed out to the rehab facility to drive her mom home and to take her a container of the soup as well. Her dad is about the same with little or no progress as to his ability to walk unassisted, even with a walker. He needs constant care and attention but his appetite has improved. The latest prognosis is at least 2 more weeks in the rehab before some decisions are made with the type of long care he will need. Keep them in your thought and prayers as this is a life changer for all of us.

Well I read and watched some of the world series and when I hit the sack the Red Birds were winning again, I really have no preference but the Texans defeated our local Ray's so I was at first pulling against them when playing us, but now maybe leaning toward them to win because they beat us; is that not convoluted thinking?? Anyhow its sure nice to have a change from the HOT and HUMID weather and now our cabin in the mois in the 30's at night which would make for great snuggling in those flannel sheets that we never got the chance to put on the bed, Ahhh they are the best on cold wintry nights. If we had been able to stick to plans we would be there until the middle of next monthNov) but as the old saying goes"if a bull frog had wings he wouldn't bump his butt" when hopping(Eddie). Well better go I see where the butcher of Libya has been butchered, good riddance to that tyrant, Qaddafi. LATER

Once again I was awaken at 5:30 to the rooster next doing what he does best; of course I picture him fried with a nice deep brown gravy over smashed potato's. Enough of that as it would mean I would have to chop his head off, dip him in scalding hot water and remove the feathers, then sear him over a small flame to singe the hair off, then gut him removing the entrails; saving the heart, liver and gizzard, then quarter him before rolling him in seasoned flower and then frying him in a deep black cast iron skillet with oil, preferably hog lard(I know sounds gross but I grew up on it and its the best for frying chicken). That's just to much work for a rooster which would probably be too tough to eat but that's the way I did on the farm when growing up back in them thar' hills of Virginia. It's so much easier to pick up a pack at the grocery but not as personable, especially at 5:30 AM.

After those visions of deep brown crispy fried rooster I did my quiet time then a bowl of oatmeal before pulling out on the bike for a ride to the rec. Gosh it was still dark at 7:15 due to the overcast and threat of rain clouds with gusty winds. They are calling for a cold front, yea we will get down into the 70's for a day or so and actually enjoy being outside. We had a good full crew for pickle ball with 2 courts going strong and a few waiting to get on to play. After my 2 1/2 hours I headed home to work in the garden. The wind was blowing like hurricanes but we got very little or no rain.

Nancy was at the rec doing her workout on the treadmill and afterwards she headed out to get a haircut and a color change. I read and did a little business work now that I'm owning my own business, sounds like a big shot but I'm having fun as well. I'm into anthropology studies and reads, 'cause I can imagine myself living in the wild and being self sufficient. I think it would be fun for awhile, living off the land. Anyhow a graduate student from Penn State went down into the jungles of South America and lived with a group of native Indian's named the Yanoama tribes and eventually assimilated into their culture and wrote a book titled INTO THE HEART. Its an exciting read and his life was constantly lived on the edge. Its not for the faint of heart or for those who need a 7-11 around the corner.

I grilled a couple bone-in pork chops and Nancy microwaved a couple sweet potato's and after the cleanup we took a nice long walk through the 'hood. She actually thought she needed a jacket as the humidity has finally gone away for awhile. We came back and cut the a/c off and opened a couple windows, Ahhh! was it ever nice for change. After Fox News I watched the last half of Survivor and then tuned into the Series where the Card's were leading when I "turned the lights off 'cause the party's over" that was an old saying from Monday Night Football and one of the greats of his time, Dandy Don Meredith and Howard Cosell, Oh well!!! LATER..enclosed are a few pics from the back yard garden, seedlings and my Orchids(actually they were our "mountain moms" but when she left Florida for the mountains she put me in charge of their keep and they produce every 9 months)..that's weird!!! Notice all the debris from the trees as the wind was strong.

Tuesday

The day started out with much the usual after the "fowl wake up" and my quiet time where I reflected on my many blessings and then the bowl of oatmeal with fruit before pedalling out to the rec for 2 1/2 hours of pickle ball. We had some really good play once again and some of our mediocre players are starting to move up in their play. It was a fun morning with lots of wet shirts. I headed home to get a little garden work in before the forcasted rains which never did show up, but the area south of the Tampa Bay received torrential rains and flooding. My recently transplanted seedlings were spared.

Nancy had to pick up her mom and take her to the rehab where she spends everyday with her dad. He is still unable to stand or walk but has made some progress with his appetite which leads to more issues regarding his control; continue to keep him and her in your thoughts and prayers.

I did a little correspondence work with my new business adventure once again extolling the value of some special offers from our team leaders with Amway. I'm having fun and making a few dollars as well, becoming an IBO was one of the best moves I've ever made. I can play business man as I'm the middleman and the quality of the products we offer are excellent and made in the USA and they really sell them selves. If any of you are looking to become just a customer let me know as I can give you customized pricing or want to take the next step and become an IBO and then you become the middleman and give yourself, family and friends customized pricing let me know and I will fill you in, its fun and rewarding.

Amy and the kiddos came for lunch and Sam was a whirlwind today, but so dang cute as well is Ava but Sam was on some kind of energy spurt. He was so funny and I just love for the little fellow to jabber away and learn new things. Ava is just so sweet and she gets a little frustrated with Sam when he is just full of it, they do play well together but every now and then he becomes all boy. After they left I napped and read until it was time for supper.

Bobby gave us some homemade pesto sauce he made last week and we mixed that with penne pasta, sour cream and a ripe tomato wow was that ever dewischeous(Annsley) and a side dish of steamed broccoli made for a great supper, yikes was that the best pesto ever, thanks son!!! Well I watched Fox News and then tuned into the debates and I must say of all the candidates Newt is the most qualified with thought provoking solutions that are not just hyperbole, I also like Cain but he has no experience and Santorium would be my second choice. We need in my opinion someone who has the best interests of America in their agendas and not trying to give away all that our fore fathers have fought for. We or some really made a big mistake in the last election, just my opinion!!! LATER

Monday

Wow it is still dark when I leave the house around 7:15 for the rec for some 2 1/2 hours of pickle ball after my usual morning wake up to the fowls next door, my quiet time and then a bowl of oatmeal. We had some old regulars show up today and the play was the best in a long time; we had 8 players the first hour then a few more wondered in. After the play ended a few of the ping pong ladies showed up and they needed a fourth some I filled in and did 3 games of doubles before heading out to the library. I picked up 3 reads I had on order then headed home on the bike. I saw that Nancy was already in the work out room getting in her 30 minutes on the treadmill as well and after supper we headed out on about a mile walk through the hood with neighbors Dan and Carol, so we got our exercise for the day.

After getting home from the rec I transplanted 3 rows of lettuces; Bibb, Black Seeded Simpson and Romaine in the garden. I also noticed all of my sugar peas are up as well as is all of my 1/2 runner green beans. I thinned out the pot of cucumber's and got enough for 3 hills so that should feed the neighbor hood. I have several more green onions poking through the ground as well and for the big news is I have a small green tomato set on one of my plants as well. I almost feel like a new father. My orchids are doing great and I will post some pics later this week as I have 7 stalks of flowers with about 10-12 flowers on each stalk, they are deep purple in color and just absolutely beautiful. I picked some seed pots from Bobby's plumeria vine growing on his fence in Riverview on Saturday and I hope to start them soon, they are another vine type plant with flowers that are beautiful.

Amy brought GG(Nancy's Mom) over when she picked up Ava from school and we all had lunch together, chicken salad and homemade potato soup; yikes was that ever dewicheous(Annseley's). After Amy and the kiddos left Nancy took her mom to the rehab to visit her dad who is eating better but that's about all for now, he still has lots of serious issues and of course at his age that's to be expected. I vegetated with a book until it was time to check on the new seedlings as it calling for strong rains tonight and again on Tuesday.

Just a reminder to all that our Amway specials run about 2 more weeks on the Ribbon Gift Albums; that's where you purchase 2 and a third one is FREE..great savings and the person(s) you send the album to chooses the gift they want from and on-line catalog, so there's no giving unwanted gifts; these are great quality merchandise as we have received 3 of the albums and the gifts we choose were fabuleous; especially the skillets, bamboo cutting boards and the Omaha steaks. There is absolutely NO Cost to be a preferred customer but there is a fee to become an IBO with Amway, LATER.

Sunday

The day started out with a sleep in until nearly 7 AM even though we tuned out the "fowl symphony" from next door, then it was get ready after our quiet times and a lite breakfast before heading out to Tampa for worship at Element Church with son Bobby. The service was awesome as usual with such praise music that was inspiring as was the message. Bobby's messages are very thought provoking and challenging with regard to life's experiences. We got to visit with many of our friends there and once again saw many new faces. The flow of new babies coming into the warehouse is just amazing and is encouraging.

We headed home shortly after the service and did a lite lunch of leftover fruit and dip from yesterday's awesome fruit tray Nancy had put together for Annsley's party, the coconut flavored dip is so yummy but fattening as it has cream cheese, whipping cream, etc, boy is it tasty. I headed out to the back yard to check on my newly transplanted seedling and it looks like about 95% of them will make it. I set a couple rat traps and put a large animal trapping cage in the middle of my garden to discourage the squirrels as they cause so much damage. I think they are looking for acorns or are burying acorns in the newly spaded dirt but they sure make a mess with my garden plants, anyhow these latest contraptions have them spooked for the moment.

I watched the NFL and saw a couple good games of course our local BUCS were blacked out because of the low ticket sales due to the economy and of course to their sporadic play; last week the 49'niners whipped them 48 to 3 and this week they beat the Saints by 6 points. Oh well!!! The Red Birds were beating the Brewers when I turned the lights at 10, so I'm assuming they are playing the Rangers in the World Series.

Well Nancy's dad is doing somewhat better at the rehab at least with his eating habits but he is still unable to stand alone and has a few others serious problems as well. Thanks for keeping both of her folks in your thoughts and prayers as this situation is life changing for both of them. Later

Pictures from Saturday Party

Saturday

Wow, what a busy fun filled day spent with our children, grand babies, other grand parents of our grand babies, some church folks, one of our team leaders and a couple unchurched folks all gathered to celebrate Annsley 4th birthday. Yikes the food was great and the little girls had a great time dressed in the mermaid princess outfits.

The morning started with us sleeping in until nearly 7 o'clock. We both did our quiet times then Nancy made eggs and grits and I headed out to the back yard to do some garden work. I have several hundred lettuce seedlings to move out of their seed beds and into bigger pots; seems I thought the seeds were no good and when sowing dumped the packets into bedding pots, well they all germinated so I'm now loaded with tons of seedling of Romaine, Black seeded Simpson and Bibb lettuces. Well I worked on that project for a couple hours before filling up all my containers so I will have plenty to share with son's Booby and Tyler for their gardens. They have the gardening bug as well and we saw Bob's yesterday and it really looks good albeit's rather small.

We headed out for Riverview to Brian and Susan place where the princess mermaid theme pool party was being held in Annsley's honor. Their 2 story place is gorgeous after a complete renovation job of which they did most of the work. We had a grand time in the pool area and Bob and I took the little guys; Sam and Gabe in the water whereas the girls did their thing. It was a little overcast and the humidity had abated so it was pleasant to sit around the screened pool but the water was a little chilly at first.

We decided after the party to let Ava stay with us and go to Annsley house to play the afternoon. We had planned on staying and visiting with Bob and family and then have supper with them while we were there in Riverview. It worked out great and the girls where in their make believe land, Gabey was napping, Bobby had to go and perform a wedding so we chilled until Gabe woke up from his couple hour nap.

I picked up a couple pizzas from Sam's which weren't the best this time but edible so we chilled and played until nearly 8 o'clock before heading out to Seminole. We had quite a coincidencent with Brian and Susan. They had gone to the Pittsburg area as her grand mother who was in her 90's passed on last week and I asked about their trip and the area and he said she was buried in a small town outside of Pittsburg named West Newton; well thats where Nancy was born and raised until around age 5 before coming to Florida, her grand parents are buried in the same cemetery and some of usans uncles new of the Rouse Store that was on Main Street, West Newton, wow!! what a small world. I will post some pics for those who can't wait to see the princess mermaid party, oh by the the cake was unique.

Friday

The morning started out much the usual with a ride on the bike to the rec for 2 1/2 hours of pickle ball after my quiet time and bowl of cereal with a banana. We had a small turn out the first hour or so with 5 players so that gave you a little break after the 4th game. Wow was I ever glad this first week of play has come to an end. It's amazing how quickly your body can become acclimated to not running around chasing a ball for just a week; however we did walk, hike and work the 4 days we were at cabin. Anyhow it will take another week to get back to where I was shape wise before last week.

I stopped off at the library for a couple reads before heading home to work in the garden. The heat is still here with high temps but the humidity has lessened a little and with a slight breeze its tolerable outside. My 1/2 runner green beans are poking through the ground in less than a week and I noticed a green sugar pea poking through as well. The beets I transplanted from the mountain garden are sending out new green leaves and it won't be long before we can add them(leaves) to our salad. Wow if you have never tried that do so, as the young tender leaves are dewishious(Annsley's) and also add much color to a fresh garden salad, plus they are extremely nutritious. They(beets) have become a stable in my garden and I now sow them close together so they don't get real big just so we can eat them for their greens. The greens when they get to big for the salad cook up just like spinach, YUMM!!! I have a couple green onions shooting up from the bulbs I brought back from the mountain garden. A cut worm or a squirrel ruined one of my broccoli plants but the collards and cabbage plants are surviving so far. I will be transplanting tons of lettuce, Swiss Chard and Kale seedlings in the next couple days.

I made a trip to Home Depot for mulch, potting soil and a cucumber plant, yikes 3 bucks for 1 pot at least there were 6 or 7 seedlings in the container. I sowed cuke seeds a couple times and they won't germinate, guess its time to buy new seeds, anyhow I did transplant a couple dozen Zinnias seedlings into bigger pots. They have become one of our favorite flowering plants and last forever, they even sustained the freeze and frost we had at the cabin last week. I brought some of their seed heads home and they germinated immediately in this warm soil.

Nancy kept Ava and Sam while Amy and Tyler had a teachers conference at Ava's school this morning. I missed seeing them today as I really look forward to their couple hour visit during the week. Nancy took her mother shopping then to the rehab to visit with her dad who is eating better but still has some serious health issues. He has a long way to go both physically and spiritually, but keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Well not much else is going except we are heading to Riverview on Saturday to celebrate Annsley birthday again, we had celebrated early because we thought we would be at the cabin but now that we're back we will do it again at her other grandparents house. Should be a fun day with lots of swimming(pool party) and good eatin' then we will stay over until the evening hours and have supper with Bob and Jill before heading back to Seminole later in the night.

Well it seems the Cardinals won last night and Rangers and Tigers play on Saturday. I don't have as much interest as when the Rays were still in but it sure beats watching House Hunters and HGTV, yuck after awhile. There should be some good college football this weekend, LATER

Thursday

Wow was it ever pouring rain this morning as I got ready to head out to the rec for some pickle ball after my quiet time and breakfast, yikes the street was flooding. That meant I had to drive there and cut my play time short because Nancy had to take her mom to the doctor. I still had a good 2 hour workout as the play was super good, and lots of long rallies.

After Nancy left with the truck I did a little garden work; the radish seeds I planted on Monday are through the ground now if I can just keep the dang squirrels from digging in the rows maybe we will get some. All the other seedlings are looking good despite the high heat and humidity today. The rain helped so much I didn't have to water this evening. I'm going to have lots of lettuce seedlings to transplant in a couple days as the seed pots are full of little seedlings as well as kale and a few flowers seedlings.

Nancy brought her mom to the house for lunch before she drove her to the rehab. We finished up the left over deer steak and she really liked it, I'm a little surprised as I didn't think she would try it but she really liked the flavor and commented how good it was. It all goes back to the way it was dressed and butchered; thanks again Andy and Mechelle and your super job of preparing this meat. After Amy and the kiddos and GG(Nancy's mom)left I caught up on some business correspondence as I'm trying to expand my customer base and I receive an e-mail regarding how manufacturer's are hiding where the products we use are made. The American people are becoming wary of products produced in China and other foreign countries so you have to look at the bar code on each product. If it starts with a 691, 692 or 693 its from China and so I'm trying to refrain from using those items especially if its an item I consume in any way, especially any vitamins or supplements. I have stopped buying those items from Wal-Mart, etc and now buy what I know is made in America by Nutrilite and distributed by Amway. I can tell such a difference in only a few weeks time and Nancy has noticed a big difference as well.

I had a large green avocado that had ripen so I chopped it up(squashed it with a fork after peeling) chopped up some onion, added lime juice, cumin, salt and pepper, tomato and layered that with some refried beans in a tortilla and added some Taco Bell sauce and some grated cheese, wow what a meal we had for supper. Yikes that was kind of fun for a change.

Well not much else is going on except I had my weed whacker worked on by a very knowledgeable small engine repair guy and he informed me to never use 87 octane(regular) gas in any 2 or 4 cycle engines as the ethanol(plant based) will cause scorching of the piston and to always use Echo synthetic oil and to mix at 2.6 ounces per gallon. Wow is this guy great and very reasonable and I could tell he loves informing the public. He has a shop in the back of his house near here in Largo and does all the small engine repairs for Ace Hardware. So all you guys out there use at least 89 octane in all small engines; he showed me what happens is the gas fumes never evaporate properly(ethanol) when setting and then it causes the damage to the piston when fired up; and that all other 2 cycle oil is bulk, even if it comes with the machine because over time its not made to withstand the high revolutions. Use Echo oil he advises as its the best.

Well the Tigers go back to Texas after winning a close one and I'm not sure about the Red Birds(Cardinals) if they won or not as it was nearly 10:30 and I was falling asleep after my shower. Our friends in the mountains are posting some absolutely gorgeous pictures of the Fall leaves on Face book, sure makes us long for the high country and so I will go back a couple years and look at the trees along side our cabin and look at their beauty that I have stored in the archives of this blog. We also long for the beauty of our friends there as well and counting the days until we will see you. Thanks so much for all the memories that were a part of our fun times, good eatin'and just enjoying one another company in that beautiful part of GOD'S creation, LATER

Wednesday

Well typical Florida weather has returned with it being 90 degrees, high humidity and bright sunshine. The a/c is on and the windows closed but somehow the seedlings I planted on Monday are hanging in there with twice a day watering. Luckily I have a shallow well. The radish seeds I sowed on Monday are popping through the ground in only 2 days. I have lots of lettuce up as well as kale, and Swiss Chard. Now if I could just keep the dang squirrels out of the garden maybe I will have a crop.

The day started much the usual with an early wake up between 5:30 and 6 of course the rooster symphony is evident. I did my quiet time then ate a bowl of cereal before pedalling out to the rec for 2 1/2 hours of pickle ball. Wow did we ever have some great play today and it was fast and furious. We have some really big hitters; but what a great workout. I did head into the weight room for a little extra as I've put on a couple pounds so I feel I must maintain around 178-180 to have that good feeling. Anyhow after the rec I stopped by for a couple reads. I picked up a true read about the FBI hostage negotiator who was involved with some high profile cases, so far it an excellent read.

Amy and the kiddos came for lunch and we had a grand time. Sam and Ava are so cute and just fun to be around. We had a grand time playing and of course they are entertaining in an of themselves. I was ready for a little nap when they left but we had to make a Wal-Mart run and then a Sam's run. Although we buy from ourselves through Amway for all our household and cleaning products there are a few things we get either at Sam's or Wal-Mart. Anyhow we got back from that run around 4:30 and boy was it ever HOT and HUMID.

We were having one of my favorite suppers; collards greens, chicken fried cubed deer steak with milk gravy and potato's from my garden. The deer meat was from Andy and Mechelle Dalton's freezer and I can't brag enough how great it was. Andy knows how to dress and butcher a deer and the taste of the meat is wonderful and absolutely the best I've ever eaten, Many Thanks, guys!!!

After supper Nancy had to pick up her mother from the rehab facility as her dad was moved this afternoon from the hospital back there. He still has a long way to go as he can't walk but at least he is eating again and is in somewhat better spirits. Thanks to all who keep him in your prayer's daily and remember her mom as well as this time has really started to take its toll on her life as well. We can only do so much to support and assist them as they both realize things will probably never be as they once were.

I watered the gardens and then vegetated in front of the tube flipping back and forth between ball games but cut the lights before either was over. My interest has twiddled since the home town guys are out but between Bill O'Reilly and baseball I'm glued to the tube for a couple hours at night. Just a note on the specials this months from our team leaders and Amway; Ribbon Gift Albums buy 2 and the 3rd is free, great savings especially as the holidays are coming up and these would make great gifts especially if you have to send presents up North or down South; no gift wrapping, mall walking or cost to mail packages. Shipping is Free with these albums, you have to the end of the month to decide; go to our store at Amway.com/JNTriplett and click on other products and there they are, Ribbon Gift Albums. I will remind all again before the last couple days of the month. Remember this special pricing is not from Amway but from our generous team leaders. LATER

Tuesday

The temps have dropped down enough to where its bearable outside for a change so I managed a little garden work after my morning routine; up a little before 6 AM, my quiet time, write my blog(if any of you are new readers my reasoning for this post is so my grand kids will know who we were) in the morning because I'm just to tired at night, have either a bowl of oatmeal with fruit or a bowl of Cheerios before heading out to the local rec. for some 2 1/2 hours of pickle ball play. Yesterday we had just enough players for a super workout with lots of wet sweaty t-shirts(that's my standard for a good workout).

Nancy's dad has improved enough to be moved out of the hospital once again into the rehab facility in Largo, he is still unable to get out of bed so I don't know how he is ever going to rehab that bum knee. He will be a little closer for us who drive her mother to the place daily as she is faithful about spending the entire days with him. He will need lots of therapy. It's only a miracle he survived the blocked impacted bowel that he suffered with for nearly 4 days and the compassion of one of the nurses at the hospital who treated him. Nancy said she was wonderful and if I knew her name I would honor her with some recognition as she started a second career and had only been on the floor a few months as a charge nurse.

Amy and the kiddos came for lunch. Ava and Sam are so cute and loving kids, Sam is speaking a little more clearly but is still a jabber and Ava is just the sweetest little girl. They play remarkably well together as Sam likes to do what she is doing so he gets in her way at times as she lets him know it. Amy is such a great mother who instructs and corrects them is such a sweet loving manner. Ava seems to be over her stomach virus so Nancy can visit her dad again as she became sick and throwing up at supper Sunday night at out house. Sam had only a little diarrhea and didn't seem to have the same sympton's as Ava.

The gang left around 2 PM for Sam's nap after an episode of Avonlea. Things quieted down so I read for awhile and then took a short nap before catching up on some correspondence with regard to our new business with Amway. We are having a lot of fun introducing the products, specials that our generous team leader provides and learning about the company and earning back our initial investment in such a short time. I learned we can will or pass on out business(IBO) to our children and grand children with our position secured in the downline. What downline means is where we have introduced new business operators or customers who have signed on after us and they have then introduced others to the business from our line, thats where the muti-level status comes in to play.I think its wonderful as it rewards those who work and those who don't work are just stagnant and left behind, much like "you reap what you sow". I only wish our gov't would run the country like this business is run.

Well I watched a little of the ALCS with the Tigers and the Rangers and it looked as if th Tigers were going to get their first win as I went nighty-nite around 10 PM, LATER

Monday

Well it was back to the usual routine after spending last Monday at the cabin with temps in the 30's, heater going and the chilled wind blowing; of course by Wednesday is was absolutely beautiful but that was last week. After my morning wake up with rooster's seranade I did my quiet time and then a bowl of Cherrios with a banana then out to the rec on the bike for a great time of pickle ball. I didn't once hit a pikle ball last week or will I hike any mountain trails this week or for many weeks to come, what a trade off. We had a good showing and a nice crowd of players and I had a wet shirt by the time I finished at 10 AM afterwards several of ladies needed a fourth for ping pong so I filled in for 3 games and my pardner and I cleaned house. Thats a fun game and believe it or not a good workout as well, especially in doubles play.

I headed home and started on the yard; mowing, edging and trimming hedges and vines. Oh by the way one of my orchid plants is sending tall shoots that have about 20 buds on them so I will be have beautiful orchids soon. Orchids are the easiest flowering plant to grow. I do absolutely nothing to them and they are gorgeous, once in awhile if I think about I will give them a shot of miracle grow but thats about it. I keep them under a large flowering vine in the back yard as they don't care for direct sunlight.

After lunch Nancy and headed out to Lowes as I had a couple Fathers Day gift cards and we bought; collards, brocolli, cabbage seedlings as well as fertilyzer and some osmocote and an 18 pack of impatients. I dropped off my weed wacker at a small engine repair shop and Val who is superb mechanic will replace some fuel lines that have cracked and fallen apart. We came back to work in the front yard and to plant my seedlings. That kept us busy until 5:30 then we had left pork roast, spuds and gravy and some fresh brocolli and cauilflower for supper. I vegetated in front of the playoffs games until it was time for nighty-nite, LATER

Sunday

Well it was a rainy, windy kind of day ALL day; no storms just rain showers and at times down pours. We headed around 9 AM for Tampa to worship with the great group of folks there as well as 2 of our grand children. Annsley is such a tiny beautiful almost 4 year old and Gabe is just a sweet smiley inquisitive big boy for 1 year old. We had a great service with awesome music, message and then challenged to make a difference for specific people who are non-believers that we personally know and then we were prayed over and anointed with oil then sent forth to interact with those specific folks; much like Jesus did with his disciples. Awesome and inspiring and it will be interesting to see what the results will be.

We headed home to have a lite lunch and of course the NFL for me. Nancy took off to the hospital to visit her dad and of course her mom and sister were there as well. His pain is gone finally along with the blockage and he seems to be doing better. I vegetated on Sunday afternoons with football and flipping back an forth to playoff baseball but I have to admit for anyone who managed to stomach it through the Bucs game in San Francisco you are a true lover of them. I finally was so disgusted with their play I turned it off after we were down some 40 points, yikes was that ever a disappointing game and I don't know if they can ever recover from that butt whipping. Its no wonder they don't have any sellout games anymore; thank goodness for blackouts. I could barely watch these millionares(players) make a fool of themselves on the field.
Well Amy and the family came for a pork roast, mashed potato's(from my garden)green beans and gravy. Little Ava got sick and threw-up from what, we aren't sure of so that put a damper on the occasion(maybe she had been watching the Bucs game) anyhow they left shortly after supper and she had more throw ups later in the evening at her house. We sure hope it's not a stomach virus going around; but Nancy and I seemed fine so far. I'm looking forward to some pickle ball on Monday morning around 7:30.

Just a business note don't forget the super Ribbon Gift offer at our store; buy 2 and the 3rd is FREE, this is not from the company but from our team leaders. Great savings and the gifts are great as well. We personally have been blessed with 3 of the gift certificate's and they are awesome, LATER

Saturday

Well it has been extremely windy here since we got back from the mountains and on Saturday night we received strong heavy rains, that should be good for the seeds I planted early in the day. The temps are in the low 80's which has made it pleasant when compared to the 90's when we arrived Friday evening.

Just an update on Nancy's dad; he was still suffering terrible pain from the blockage in his intestines as late as the afternoon when one of the nurses decided to take more drastic steps to help him alleviate the situation and it worked, he finally passed the blockage and almost immediately color came back into his face, the severe pains were gone and he even ate some supper for the first time in days. He still has a ways to go but at least he is some what better and not in such pain, plus Nancy said the terrible smell in his room is gone as well.

I spent the day while Nancy was with her mom and dad at the hospital planting the garden. I sowed 1/2 runner green beans, 3 kinds of lettuces, kale, Swiss Chard, cucumbers and sugar peas as well as more Marigolds and Zinnias. The beets I transplanted look good after only being in the ground for a day as well as my herbs; basil, oregano, parsley and rosemary. Yikes I love these herbs and they so change or add to the flavor of most all dishes.

I took off on my bike to the rec to get in a little cardio workout and then dropped by the library for a couple reads. I spent the afternoon watching football and reading. I fixed marinated chicken breasts on the grill and Nancy made yellow rice and a salad to go with them before going back to the hospital and then driving her mom home for the night.

Just a business update as I'm learning something new almost everyday and I want those of you who are interested to be able to take advantage of some fantastic savings. Amway has partnered up with several businesses such as; Sears, Verizon,Best Buy, Dell and many more. There is a direct discount to those who become IBO's with great savings some I'm seen as much or more than 20%, yikes that's unbelievable plus your buying from yourself so there is even more of a savings. One young couple in our group purchased their cell phones and contracts and saved over 800 bucks for the year. Check it out under the more products headings and pardner stores.

Well its time to get ready to head out to Tampa for worship with our son at Element Church. Come on out if your able and if not find some other church near you for corporate worship today. We have much to be thankful for as Nancy's dad is responding with some improvement and we had a safe uneventful trip back to Florida as many of you remembered us in your thoughts and prayers, LATER ...Thought I would post a few pics from our last afternoon at the cabin.

Thursday and Friday

Well, Thursday morning found us getting ready on short notice to winterize the cabin and leave early Friday morning for Florida. We or I had lots planned that day to help out with friends and neighbors but Wednesday night we got word Nancy's dad wasn't doing well at all and had to be hospitalized again from the rehab facility. It appeared he has an intestinal blockage and was in severe pain as well as diminished kidney function. Nancy was not enjoying being in the mountains with her dad in such bad shape and of course her mom needed some support as well while going through this daily stressful time of being with her dad in this condition. It seems Nancy is the rock in that family when there is a need so she felt it right to be there for her mom and dad even though it meant traveling back 700 miles from the mountains.

I cancelled helping out our mountain mom and her brother with some small chores as well as helping our neighbor Norman who lives on top of the mountain. I spent the rest of the day getting ready to pull out for Florida the next morning at 4 AM. Mechelle our dear sweet friend came by with several packs of frozen venison and some of their home grown steer they had butchered this year, many Thanks to Andy and Mechelle for their generosity and we will think of them as we savor that delicious meat.

Our mountain mom Helen came by for a short visit and we loaded her up with some goodies we didn't want to take back to Florida from the fridge and cupboards. She mentioned she did the same thing with her neighbor many years ago when she traveled back to Florida for the winter. We will surely miss our daily morning and evening phone calls with her. Our old friends Walt and Theia Hampton came by as well; Walt was our electrician and plumber when we built the cabin back in '94-'95and we have become great friends over the years. Our kids use to visit with them as well and now we both have grand babies. We use to have some sumptious suppers over at his place with all of his family. It was great to see them as that was the first time we were able to visit this summer, except by phone as we have been busy traveling; first with my dad in Virginia and now Nancy's dad.

The trip down was smooth and uneventful and many thanks to all who kept us in their thoughts and prayers. We did our 1 1/2 hour stops to walk 15 minutes as prescribed by the doctor who treated me last year for a deep vein thrombosis(DVT) in my left leg. I also tried out my new compression stockings that airline pilots as well as truckers wear because of their immobility while sitting for hours at a time. I love the new stocking and my legs never ached at all. I even had Nancy wear a pair and she too admitted her legs felt great while traveling. We were bad with our eating habits as we did MacDonald's for breakfast and later Subway for lunch and then a frozen pizzas for supper.

Nancy took off for the hospital to visit her dad after supper and I transplanted some beets I had pulled out of my mountain garden. I accidentally found out they transplant well along with a couple parsley plants I brought back. I had several small onion sets about a quarter in diameter that I brought back as well so I planted them also. The 9 tomato plants I put in the ground about a week ago looked good as Florida neighbor Jim who looks after our place had been watering them. I worked in the garden until the mosquito's starting eating me alive so it was time to call it a day.

Nancy just came back from the hospital and said her dad is suffering severe abdominal pain due to the blockage. They are giving him a solution to drink that will hopefully start to breakup the blockage down so he can pass it; but so far there has been little or no relief. There was some good news in that his kidney's are starting to function a little better, thankfully. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Well I've rambled on long enough. Last Sunday and Monday we had the gas heat on at the cabin and tonight we have the a/c on once again, LATER

Wednesday

It was another chilly morning with temps into the high 40's but oh did it ever feel good to be out and about in the fresh clean mountain air that's never been breathed before. We were awake around 6 AM to the stillness except for the dew dripping from the bump out onto the metal roof, do I ever love that sound. We were are snuggled with quilts and comforters and of course the small gas heater had the cabin all cozy. I do miss the cardio workout that comes with pickle ball but these hills keep the muscles in tone and of course all that we have been doing to get the cabin ready for the winter that's coming.

I started with frying up a pack of bacon outside on the porch on the grill side burner, boy is that nice as it keeps the smell out of the cabin but that smell outside is just delicious. Nancy fried up a couple cackleberries(eggs) each and with some grits, toast, coffee for her and a V-8 with vinegar for me. Yikes was that ever good eatin'. Neighbor Gerald came up with his friends and big strong cousins and reclaimed the nice bed we had borrowed this summer for our guests from the basement; Gerald and I stood by as these big guys handled the bed with ease and we are grateful for the use of the bed. Our basement gets a little musty in the winter so its best to not have a bed down there on a permanent basis; so we borrowed from our great neighbors, many thanks Gerald and Jodi.

After the bed was gone I cleaned out the dead limbs from the wine berry bushes, dug up some unwanted lilies, planted some tulip bulbs our mountain mom gave us, transplanted some cone flowers that were growing the rock driveway all before we headed out to the top of the mountain for our hike of the day. Once again the walk was invigorating and we notice some more color in the leaves. We finally got up with Norman on top and he looked swell, especially after having such a bad bout with blood poisoning this past summer. We chatted and I agreed to turn over his garden before we head back on Sunday.

We sat on the front porch with the heater off and the doors open as the temps steadily rose during the morning to a warm 75, and had our lunch, yikes was that ever nice. We had a fresh salad and I even salvaged 2 small ripe tomato's from the garden and were they ever tasty. After lunch I cleaned the deck and waterproofed it using the bean sprayer. We got ready afterwards and headed over to visit Eddie and Kimberly. They took us to what will be their new home eventually and their barn. This is not an ordinary barn, its huge with an indoor riding ring, individual stalls for their horses, heated with a bathroom as well. They purchased 20 acres including the barn about 20 miles from our place in Pipers Gap, Virginia. They will have a magnificent view and a level building site for their new modular home. We framed around for a couple hours enjoying their vision, adding our input to their plans and dreams for their new place. It is an unbelievable setup with great pasteurs and a place they can ride their horses all winter long out of the cold. Speaking of horses their new colt, Jesse who was orphaned at just a couple days is a beauty. I have never seen a more muscled animal for his age and just a great disposition; of course he was bucket fed since birth and is use to people loving on him.

We came back to their gorgeous 25 acre farm which is for sale and their real log house but because of his inability to muster the stairs and steep banks that require mowing they are selling out. Believe me they are steep as I helped him weed eat that bank one morning which took 2 of us about 3 hours and I was on my knees several times to keep from falling down into the pond. I can understand their desire for more level ground, a single story house and of course this new barn for their 11 horses. Oh well!!! I loaded up with Nancy's help about 12 bags and 10 cans of Tommy dropping(that's their stallions poop) for my veggie gardens. Tommy was like a big dog who we had to move him away from the process the whole time we were filling bags. He is a beautiful animal but a big baby.

We got home and while Nancy put stuffed pork chops in the oven with sweet potato's and canned greens I burned a large pile of rubbish. It was nearly 7:30 before we ate supper. We got word her dad is not improving and has gone down hill even more so if not before we are heading back on Sunday morning to hot sunny Florida. Today here was the day you look forward to in the mountains, absolutely beautiful weather with bright blue skies, no humidity and a gentle breeze in the 70's.
